Building a Succesful Career

Success at work about feeling that you are able to do your job well.

It’s about having clarity in your role, feeling valued for your contributions and being in the right environment for you to grow and develop. Building a successful career requires ongoing reflection, planning and change.

Let’s start with what a successful career looks like to you.  Consider the following questions:

  • How do you define success at work?
Is it job title, salary or benefits, impact, stability, progression or something else?

  • What are your strengths and are you using them in your current role?
Are there opportunities to use them more fully?

  • What do you enjoy about your role? What aspects energise or drain you?
How much do you get to do these energising tasks currently?

  • What feedback have you received?
Does this fit with your own views of your work?

  • What supports or adjustments help you perform at your best?
How might you communicate these to your manager or team?

  • What would a sustainable, fulfilling next step in your career look like?
And what’s one action you could take to move toward it?
